Scientific Profile

Peanut Obsidian is a natural volcanic glass characterised by cream or tan spherulites (radial crystals) within a dark mahogany or black base. These inclusions form during rapid cooling of lava, creating unique spotted patterns. Despite being called obsidian, it is more accurately a rhyolite (volcanic rock with high silica content).

Its unusual appearance makes it popular for carvings, tumbles, and worry stones.

Metaphysical Properties

Peanut Obsidian is associated with grounding, release, and renewal. Like all obsidians, it represents transformation through confronting and releasing what lies beneath the surface.

On an emotional level, Peanut Obsidian supports letting go of old habits, behaviours, or thought patterns that weigh you down. Its grounding presence provides a sense of stability while you process release. The cream inclusions symbolise light breaking through the dark — renewal after clearing heaviness.

On a spiritual level, it is considered a mirror stone, reflecting back what needs attention. Its unique contrast of light and dark patterns symbolises integration of shadow and light, making it useful in self-reflection or shadow work practices.

In manifestation, Peanut Obsidian helps reset intentions by clearing what no longer serves. It prepares the ground for fresh growth, reminding you that endings make way for beginnings.
